Does ruining the Sims 3 from an external hard drive, effect the game performance?

If the external USB hard drive connected has a reasonably recent interface (eg. USB 2.0 or 3.0) then there should be no real lag time, seeing as they can cope with at very least 60MB/s, much more then the game will need.
